Top 15 Concept Cars That Will Make A Car Lover Drool

Some people think “If you’ve seen one car, you’ve seen them all.” However, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, there are a lot of cars that have been and stayed concepts and have likely never reached your eyes. Even as a car enthusiast, you’re probably not up to date on all concept cars made within the last decade. There are cars that you could not have imagined (and cars that you have imagined but never thought possible) that have been turned into completely functional vehicles.

Shapeshifting, floating, and life-size Hot Wheels cars are all on this list. Breaking boundaries(and banks) are these kinds jaw-dropping concepts. Some of what’s on here are new and some date back to as far as 1975. Even the older ones look as though they’ve time traveled from the future. If you love cars and like to know what’s new then you’ll love learning about what’s only in the design and idea phases. There are cars that have been brought to production, but those are usually rare and expensive. Elegant designs, sleek lines, and exclusive features all make us feel like there’s no way these cars can be a reality. Unfortunately, some of these haven’t gone past the concept phase, but fingers crossed everybody.

From futuristic designs and even features that hint to the past, here’s a list of the coolest concept cars you’ve likely never seen before. To think some people feel like there’s nothing they haven’t seen in a car. What a concept.

1. Lamborghini Estoque

Just in case you were counting down, yes, this is the third and last Lamborghini on this list. The four-door sports car is suitable for daily driving but can handle almost whatever you throw at it. As the first sedan to come from the Italy-based automaker Sant’Agata Bolognese, the Estoque comes with choices. A Gallardo-based V-10, turbocharged V-8, a diesel/hybrid V-8 are all options the car can use as an engine and the split five-spoke wheel will be able to transfer all the power to the ground. A large LCD display, high-quality audio, and a rear-seat entertainment system are all included in the package, too. Plus, interior space will be enough to fit additional passengers.

2. Peugeot Onyx

It’s possible that this is the most beautiful car on Earth. It’s aerodynamic lines and state-of-the-art materials make for high performance. Made for and by car enthusiasts, the Onyx, which features a Hybrid4 engine under its copper sheet, gives everyone car lust. While not something Peugeot would usually do, everyone is hoping and praying they’ll put this car into production. It’s not just the aesthetics that has everyone going crazy, either. The hybrid has a 3.7-liter V8 hybrid (which is surrounded by a carbon fiber shell) and gets 600bhp. It’s light, too, and only weighs 1,100kg.

3. Volkswagen Aqua

We don’t have a flying car quite yet, but driving into the sea is a possibility. The Volkswagen Aqua and its hovercraft-style air cushion allows you to drive across water(as well as ice and snow among other terrain) and go effortlessly between any surfaces at up to 62mph. The Aqua, which uses two hydrogen-powered engines to allow hovering, is good for the environment. The fans at the back of the car/hovercraft are disguised as wheels and provide forward thrust and directional control necessary for a vehicle of this sort. Though it looks slightly like a spaceship(and has some of the same capabilities too), the design is sleek, clean, and modern and any driver would happily hop aboard.

4. Ford GT90

Though the Ford GT90 looks like something from the future, it was created over 20 years ago. The car was first seen at the Detroit Auto Show in January 1995 and called “the world’s mightiest supercar.” It doles out 720bhp from a quad-turbocharged V12, can accelerate to 60mph in 3.1 seconds and up to 100mph in 6.2 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 235mph. Because so much heat is produced from the V12 engine, the car uses Space Shuttle ceramic tiles to prevent from melting body panels. The futuristic car began as a secret project and shares features with the Jaguar XJ220 as Ford owned Jaguar at the time.

5. Lamborghini Gallardo Concept S

There are only two of this concept car in existence. The 5-litre V10-powered concept car is worth $2.4-$3 million and is a street-legal roadster. It’s been shown twice at Pebble Beach and, according to Stephen Winkelmann, the President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.P.A, “The Concept S represents everything that Lamborghini stands for. It is extreme, uncompromising, and Italian.” When the non-running design of the Concept S was presented at Geneva in 2005 received so much attention, the fully operational was created and first shown at the Concorso Italiano. The 520-horsepower car looks futuristic and cool but, unfortunately, the operable model was the first and last and will not see production.

6. Lotus Hot Wheels

Car and toy lovers alike all get giddy and are filled with a childlike excitement when they see the Lotus Hot Wheels concept from 2007. It was designed by Lotus for the Hot Wheels toymaker and looks amazing. It’s a 1;5 scale model, though, so you probably won’t be able to squeeze into it unless you are actually a kid. The model of the concept was revealed at the 2007 SEMA Show in Las Vegas but in 2008, it became a 1:64 model. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before and embodies the spirit and badassness of many of the Hot Wheels toy cars.

7. BMW Gina

Though Gina is simply an acronym for “Geometry and functions In ‘N’ Adaptations,” hecklers have poked fun at the name, referring to the car as the very immature nickname “Vagina.” The name is only thing you can make fun of on this shapeshifting car, though. Yes, the car can change shape; it has a moveable frame the driver can control at will and the materials used to make the car can handle both high and low temperatures. Its polyurethane-coated spandex exterior allows it to grow a spoiler if need be and is made to be water resistant as well. The manmade fabric skin is extremely durable and does not wear out from all the stretching and outside elements. The doors open butterfly style and the headlights are revealed in an eyelid manner when the motors pull the fabric back.
